3 Gorgeous Entries To Emulate

I don't know about you but my front door could use a little love. My planted flowers died and well, our lighting is nothing spectacular.

Today, I'm sharing with you beautiful entries to help give you (and me) ideas on how to make our homes look pulled together and inviting.

Check these out!

So inviting, clean and crisp white front porch with lanterns, and painted gray porch floor.

Charcoal door, transoms, lantern, oversize corbels, potted boxwoods, slate...perfection!

With a wide front porch, tons of wicker, and plenty of antiques, the house has as much classic style as an old Hamptons beach retreat. At the same time, batik prints, mercury glass accessories, and a mix of English and American antiques infuse the house with laid-back California cool and Old Hollywood glamour, too

My Family Room: Proof a Pretty Room Can Be Done On A Budget

Hi JWS Readers!

I hope those of you that signed up for the DesignIT newsletter liked our latest issue!

I wanted to share with you today proof that a well-designed room can be done on a budget. AKA--My family room.

When we first moved in, our old furniture wasn't the right size in our new home, and since we were on a budget, I couldn't just go out and buy everything I wanted.

Here's a rundown of where I purchased items in my family room below. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised !

Chandelier: West Elm
Drapes: Restoration Hardware
Sofas: World Market
Coffee Table: HomeGoods
Rug: Home Decorators Collection
2 Vintage Chairs (not shown in photo) (originally my Mom's)
Mirror: HomeGoods
Art: HomeGoods or own
Decorative Accessories: HomeGoods

Don't Forget Sconces! 5 Gorgeous Images

I love sconces--I don't use them a lot, but when a project calls for them and a client wants them--I get very excited to start the selection process.

Sconces are sometimes forgotten as a light source alternative to table lamps or a chandelier.  They can be combined with either, or "stand" on their own. Using sconces adds another layer to a design and can offer a creative, fun focal point.

Ideas for your sconces in your home:  an entry; a small nook where extra light is needed; a powder room or hallway.

Take a look at some of my favorite images using pretty sconces.  They are generally easy to put in using a qualified contractor.

An inspiring study in detail. The strong red of the lantern-style pendant and sconces repeat in the ottoman print and pedestal table trim.

Agatha O | Occasional #chairs in floral fabric add an elegant note of femininity to an interior. But you must be careful not to place floral patterns in typical places such as on draperies as it looks dated, while on a small dining-room chairs it looks abstract. Harper's Bazaar August Issue Feature and Behind The Scenes Photos

Every year Harper's Bazaar hosts a "Fabulous At Every Age" reader contest whereby they select 5 inspiring women --one woman for each age decade-- and fly them to New York for a 4 day trip to be pampered, photographed, wined and dined and most fun of all--photographed for the magazine itself.

Juley Le (of Upperlyne), Karin Trevino (of Bowie James Swim), Vibeke Andersen, and Demetria Newman won for their age category. I had so much fun  hanging out with these women!

I was honored to win for the 30 year old age category and was stunned when I received the email that I had won. (I was getting in the car and had to stop the car to share the news with my family!)

Just a few short weeks later, Harper's Bazaar flew me to NYC for a once-in-a-lifetime experience of being pampered at The Surrey Hotel

While there we met with the fashion editors, marketing gurus, and even the publisher of HB at a celebratory luncheon in our honor with celebrities including rocker Kim Gordon and artist Olympia Scarry in attendance!

Thanks to sponsors Theory and Estee Lauder, we received money, free clothes and makeup and had so much fun getting makeovers.

We were invited to the Estee Lauder office as well as had makeovers at Saks.

The list goes on in terms of the celebrity treatment we received, but what I got most out of the experience was meeting these fabulous ladies from all over the country!  I also made a great new friend who I'm visiting this summer in California.

A special thank you to Annie at  Harpers' Bazaar who truly made this all happen!

Here are photos of the event !

5 Rooms You'll Love That Use Sliding Barn Doors

Barn Doors are big in decorating right now. I love them! They hang on the outside of a door and slide on a track.

Check out this rustic hallway! We love the dark wood floors with the reclaimed wood ceiling. The white sliding barn door adds a dramatic effect. The cage pendant lights down this hallway gives it a dramatic and gorgeous look! Add some rustic elegance to your home!
