Get the Look: A Glamorous City Apartment: With Kathy Kuo Home

Hi Everyone!

I'm so excited to share with you today my luxurious city apartment design board using Kathy Kuo Home pieces.  If you aren't familiar with Kathy Kuo Home, you have to check out all the great furniture, lighting, accessories, and more.  One quick click and I'm sure you'll find some pieces you love just like I did!

I'm currently working on a few projects and am LOVING the plethora of coffee table options because there are so many types from traditional to modern... to suit my clients' different needs.

This design board was inspired by my recent trip to NYC and my secret hope (not so secret now) that someday I'll have a NYC apartment to "glam up" !

Lusting: A Makeover For My Office

As I think is the case with most design professionals, we love to change our surroundings when it comes to design and I'm feeling that with my own home office.

I have a great space with a large window but it is lacking a lot in terms of design (Although I do like my black walls). So, I'm thinking about re-designing it later this summer.

Here are images as my inspiration for my new office:

A Celebrity's Glam Manhattan Home

If you like understated elegance, you'll love Ivanka Trump's glam Manhattan home. I came across her apartment some time ago in Elle Decor and have been smitten since. I love her style!

What do you think?

ED: What was the inspiration behind the ceramic tile that you used on the kitchen ceiling?
JK: Bill brought the tiles to us, and we immediately loved them. They're a classic feature, with a nod to New York, but the application to the barrel-vaulted ceilings and the iridescent finish gives them a reflective quality that makes the room glow.
ED: Why the medium-brown "mink" stain on the floor? Most floors these days are darker or lighter.
JK: It's just something that spoke to us. We liked that it's not typical, and it has a wonderful tonality and texture.
ED: Ivanka, how did you develop your appreciation for the kind of urban modernism the apartment embodies?
IT: When you grow up in New York, you become a student of the different period styles around you. Every neighborhood has its own design DNA that reflects the history of the city. Part of being successful in real estate is recognizing that each building is unique.
ED: Who chose the strong array of artworks?
IT: Our friend Alberto Mugrabi, who has an unbelievable collection. Jared walked him through the penthouse during construction. Alberto was really taken with the volumes of the spaces, and together they selected the pieces.
The master bedroom features a bed with a custom headboard by BDDW, a vintage Hans Wegner valet chair, a 19th-century chaise upholstered in a fabric by Rodarte for Knoll, and a side table by E.R. Butler; the artwork is by Carol Bove, and the rug is by ABC Carpet & Home.

Ashley Stark : An Interview & Peek Into Her Glam Manhattan Home

If you love design, the name Stark may ring a bell.... as in Stark Carpet--the design darling of gorgeous custom rugs.

As social media tends to do, I connected with Ashley Stark, Creative Director of Stark Carpet via Instagram after seeing her very glam dining room featured in a past issue of Elle Decor

Here's my Q&A with Ashley on her job, love of interior design and her top picks for all things New York, not to mention a few shots of her gorgeous home!

Thanks Ashley for taking the time to answer my questions.

1) Tell us about Stark as well as your position as Creative Director.  What is a typical day for you and what do you like best about your job

As Stark’s creative director, I oversee the stylistic aspects of everything we do, from color direction to the designs we carry.  What I love most about  my job is that no day is the same.  My position allows be to be involved in all aspects of the company, and I get to work with talented designers all day.  I love developing designs and seeing those become actual rugs and carpet.  Traveling to the mills all over the world is one of my favorite things.  It’s such a unique experience to see how different rugs are made.  It brings you back in time seeing the art of the handwoven rug.

2) I found a gorgeous image of your dining room featured in Elle Decor via Instagram--did you use a designer for your home? If so, whom? How would you describe your design aesthetic ?  How do you go about decorating your home? What is your favorite room in your home?

I worked with Jim Aman and John Meeks of Match Studios to help me pull it all together.  It was a collaboration – I had the vision and the foundation for what I wanted, and they helped bring it to life.   My aesthetic is what I call ‘timeless traditional’ with a touch of livable modern, if that makes sense.  I like textures over pattern, and want each room to be approachable and comfortable.  I am torn on my favorite room!  I love my bedroom so much, it’s so soothing and lush, but my den with the wood on the ceiling is a subtle show stopper.  And then of course my daughter’s room is so beautiful.

3) Lifestyle--You are based in NYC. How long have you lived in NYC? What are some of your favorite spots to shop for furniture & accessories/eat out/ etc?
I have lived in NYC my whole life, with the exception of my college years at Brown University.  I am a city girl all the way.  I have been going to the Manhattan vintage clothing and textile show since I was 8 years old.  I still look forward to going in the fall and spring.  I love to shop at Home Nature, Flair and the D&D building.  I love going to the home furnishings market in High Point, North Carolina, and the NY Now show and seeing all the vendors.  Some of my favorite restaurants are Apizz on the lower east side, Morandi in the west village, Sushi of Gari, Il Buco, L'artsui … there are just too many to name.  NYC has so much to offer. I love discovering new small shops and going to galleries all over the city.

Coastal Bedroom

Happy Monday!

Today I wanted to share with you a Coastal Bedroom--that my 9 year old daughter put together! She has been watching me create these boards and decided to put this together (but had named it "Dream Bedroom"! )
 I think she's giving me a hint?

So thrilled to share it with you today since it turned out beautiful!
