#3: Jennifer Wagner Schmidt, 36, Owner and Interior Designer at JWS Interiors

Where she's located: Washington, DC
Her beginning: She switched from a career in public relations to interior design after taking just one interior design course!
Fun fact: Her work has been featured on such media outlets as The Washington Post, DesignSponge, and CocoCozy.
In her words: "My advice for those who want to break out on their own is to do your research first. Talk to local entrepreneurs and those in the field to which you want to join and pepper them with questions. Their answers can help potentially lead you in the right direction. You are going to have to believe in yourself, your passion, and then go for it. You only live once, make it happen!"

Sneak Peek on Project/ My Favorite Grays

Let me first just start out saying that I have very patient clients and this client has been wonderful as we've been working on her master bedroom and sitting room for some time now.

I'm thrilled that we are in the last stage (aka one more month) to finishing it up, as we await for one last piece to arrive and to finish up with accessories!

This project has been so much fun because the client and I are on the same page with everything and it is a glam room!

Here's a sneak peek on her sitting room. We chose shades of grey mixed in with some white and ivory.  I can't wait to get the photographer in there and show everyone final pictures.

Thanks GL for being an awesome client!

PS--I've included ideas for incorporating gray into your space below the picture.

Favorite Gray Paints (All Benjamin Moore)
-La Paloma Gray
-Stonington Gray
-Chelsea Gray

I love using faux fur and mixing textures for blankets and pillows. Etsy is a wonderful resource for affordable and unique pillows.

You'll notice here we decided on a shiny silver floor lamp which adds drama to the matte grays we used.

February Wish List

Hope you are having a great weekend!  It's supposed to snow here, so who knows what tomorrow will bring!  I've been purging stuff in my house and decided to take a break to look around online and came up with these fun things for my February Wish list. Yes, I realize we have another week, but what the heck--it gives me time to wish longer! haha

Enjoy your Sunday!

My Newly Styled Desk & Links You'll Love

Hi Everyone!
I hope your weekend is off to a great start!  I was busy this morning cleaning up my office and desk. I ran to the grocery store to pick up these pretty pink baby roses. I was also at  HomeGoods yesterday and scored the pink notebook and the gorgeous black and gold bowl featured here!   I love candles so I always have one lit in my office. Certain scents bring back memories of events or trips.

Vintage Inspiration

I was recently introduced by a good friend to a very high-end consignment shop here in DC.
I was thrilled to find some beautiful bags, clothes, shoes and even home goods. I love the "hunt" for both vintage and new items! I had the good fortune of finding a vintage Christian Dior scarf and a gray Italian leather bag that looks a lot like Valentino's Rock Stud.. Happy Shopper I am!

Which leads me to today's post... not everything has to be new to be "good."  I love finding vintage pieces for a client, even if it's just a small tabletop accessory.  This is easier to do for my clients who lean more modern, but it's fun just to look too.

Check out these beautiful designs using vintage pieces!

Neutral and Modern Room

Hi Everyone!

I'm back from Miami celebrating my husband's birthday and I'm excited to get back into the swing of things here at JWS. There is a lot going on!

Always partial to neutral decor, I found this beautiful, modern room and wanted to share. I love the crisp white walls and the modern chandelier.

The textures --in the art, shag pillows, glass coffee table--add great elements to the space.

Green With Envy

I don't know about you, but I typically don't decorate or even buy anything green for that matter, unless it's a plant or faux moss ball for decorating.

When I came across this first photo--I thought "Wow, this green is amazing" "It's so glam!"

Then I got to looking at other photos of green sofas and decor and fell in love. Here are some of my favorites.

What do you think about green?

Green Sofa, with gold, black, white and glass

We love this take on a traditional sofa. The velvet makes it warm and inviting. The color makes it more modern or retro. Love this room! #green #sofa
