Beach Inspired Interiors/Heading to California

Hi Everyone,
My family is soon leaving for our vacation to California. We will start in San Francisco and then drive down the coast, stopping along the way, and finally relaxing in Santa Monica.  We are super excited and thanks to all of you on IG for all of your recommendations!

My husband and I lived in SF when we first got married and it proved to be the time of our lives. We are thrilled to show our daughters the apartment building where we lived and of course some of the tourist "to-dos" that kids love.  With all of your restaurant recommendations, we will definitely be eating well to boot!
I was inspired today to show some beautiful beach houses since our stay will end in Santa Monica.  Always a big fan of using white, these are stunners.
I won't be blogging while away; however, be sure to check out @jwsinteriors on Instagram to see our pics from Cali!

A Reader's Favorite Room

Today I wanted to share a photo that was sent in for my "Readers' Favorite Room" blog post where I asked for readers to send in their favorite photo of a room in their home.

Today's adorable nursery is from Sara Crook of Put Together, a blog that covers decor, food, organizational tips and more. I hope you love her adorable nursery and how she incorporated pops of yellow as a an accent color.  Thanks Sara!

Stacking Up: Great Uses of Bookshelves

The number one easiest way to decorate your home is with books.

Here's why: they add life, detail, and don't have to cost a lot when decorating your space.
The good old library is a great way to get bargain books to fill your shelves!

Books can fill out a coffee table, shelves, and even floor space! (You know you've seen those pictures of books stacked under tables and even used AS tables!)

I love it when (like this first photo from Architectural Digest) bookshelves are built in over doors. It's a great use of space, and a design detail that shouldn't be overlooked.

Here are some fab examples of bookshelves.

full wall bookshelves. Amazing way to organize a room, save space and highlight different decor.

It's all about the dark brown floor to ceiling bookcase...

These floating shelves are much cheaper than Ikea's bookcases & look cooler too! If you can find them in Ikea's "as is" section for less AND on their 10% off "as is" Wednesdays- big score! Or look for these type of shelves at other home improvement stores. [IKEA lack shelves as bookcase]

Lavender Lust

Happy Monday everyone!

I don't know about you, but lavender isn't the first color that comes to mind when I'm designing a room, but after doing my weekly design research and looking for inspiration, I'm smitten with this pastel hue.

Lavender is a sophisticated color and when done right can make an interior sing.  Check out these photos of great lavender rooms--from master bedrooms to chic living rooms--that look like a million bucks!

Jet Setter: Barcelona

Happy Friday!

I'm so ready for the weekend and am actually skipping town for an extended weekend with a girlfriend and all of our kids! Packing in the car and driving together will be so much fun ~

Speaking of skipping town--Barcelona has been on my bucket list for some time now.  One of my clients--and now friend--is talking of going, so hopefully I can check this one off my list in the Fall!

I found these gorgeous photos to share with you.  If you've been, please comment and tell us what you love!

Modern Architectural Details: Using Glass Walls and Doors to Add Interest

Hi Everyone!

Today's post was exciting for me to put together in that I have a love affair with architectural details such as large windows like these beauties I'm showing today.  They add so much life and extra "je ne sais quoi" about a space.  And truth be told, while I love the home we are in, it does make me want to build a home from scratch so that we can use these types of design elements.  A dream? Maybe, but I'd like to think we can make it happen in the next few years. Only time will tell...

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I did researching to show you today.

New Portfolio Photos: My Luxe Makeover For A Couple's Whole House Design

Hi Everyone!

Today I wanted to post all the pictures from my makeover of a Cape Cod style home that a nice 20-something couple hired me to design.  They pulled me into the design process with only wood studs up--no drywall, no floor, no electricity.

After 7 months, we completed and here is the result!
So happy to share with you all!

Huge thanks to The Glitter Guide for featuring the makeover yesterday!

Thanks to MA for the opportunity and Stacy Zarin Goldberg for taking the fabulous photos!
