Modern Family Room Design Board

Hi Everyone!

Hope you had a fab weekend. Today I wanted to share with you the design board I put together for one of my new clients whom I've mentioned before is moving from Manhattan to the DC area.  They are building a beautiful home and have tasked me to start designing the family room.

They have kids and liked modern design, yet needed it to be comfortable and practical.
Here's one plan (I always give clients multiple options) that I came up with.

That sofa is killer in navy/indigo color, killer!

Weekend Project: Frame a Scarf

Hi! Hope you are having a great weekend!
I am waiting for the framed silk scarf for my Glam Project to arrive so it got me thinking to find all of you some scarf examples to get the creative juices flowing for your home.

You can see my original post on this HERE.

I went on Etsy and folks there are thousands of scarves for sale--from $19-$950! You pick your budget and the world is your oyster.

Here are a few scarves that caught my attention. Once you have it, you can take it to your framing store to have framed professionally, or if you like DIY, here's a tutorial I found online from the High Heeled Foot In the Door (but haven't tried so I can't say if it is great or not)

I would frame this for a children's space

Black & White Delight/Shout Outs

So excited to share with you today this gorgeous photo of a classic black and white motif. I adore how the drapes in the arched doorway make the entire space feel so glam and dramatic.
The sphere lighting and accessories add to the drama yet also provide some cohesion.

There's a lot going on at JWS Interiors.. exciting things to share in May!

Friday I present a modern, graphic family room to a NYC family whom is relocating to the DC area. Again, I am thrilled to be working with you, KP.

You'll see later today or tomorrow a sneak peek on my Facebook page  at the almost complete dining room of my Glam Condo Project so be sure to check it out! Some of our pieces are taking 12 weeks to arrive, hence the long time to finish. I'm super excited to be working with this client as she's basically given me free reign over the design of every space! Thanks LG!

In addition, a quick shout out to client DB--good things come to those who wait and I'm excited as we move forward with what I dub our project as "DC Hamptons" project!

BV--Loving working on the guest house and can't wait to show you!

Last but not least GL, I love working together ... period!

Habitually Chic®: Chic in Paris: The LSD

Hi Everyone!
I hope you are having a good week!
I thought for today's post I'd feature TRAVEL ESSENTIALS since I'm heading to Miami in a few weeks.

I snapped this photo of the first things I'd pack for the beach--My new Michael Kors black bikini, Neutrogena sunscreen (always a must), my white hat (Target--$6.99) , a few magazines and  my pink and white wrap that can also be used as a scarf, among other things!

For makeup, I love L'Oreal's pencils and glosses and Benefit's Benetint for the perfect shade of pink on your cheeks. You can also use it on your lips and then put gloss over.

What are your travel essentials? (Oops.. just realized I left out my sunglasses!)

Project Design Board for NYC Apartment

Hi Everyone,
Today I wanted to share with you the design board for the dining area I put together for my awesome NYC client!  It's a fantastic apartment in the West Village.

She loved blues and wanted a pattern for the drapes, while keeping the furniture streamlined and modern. We both love white so I found the chairs and table to be a perfect match with what we wanted to accomplish. We have made a few minor adjustments, but this was the original design.

Hi Everyone!

I'm so excited to share with you photos of the DC Design House!

The beautiful photos were taken by Angie Seckinger.
Earlier this week they held a luncheon for press/bloggers.

This year's house can be toured:

April 13th - May 11th 2014,
4600 Linnean Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20008

Folks, the designers knocked it out of the park this year! Some truly amazing rooms.

Which room/space is your favorite??

I adore that Rill Architects chose blue for the door and outdoor accents.
D&A Dunlevy did a fantastic job of the landscaping!

What an entrance with that floor! Camille Saum knows how to make a statement!

Love this dining room! Simple and chic!

Love the use of blue cabinets! Genius!

This room is so relaxing to look at. I could easily plop down and read a book here.

I love to flip through one of my favorite magazines, Elle Decor, for inspiration for the day; I have my handy notepad to write down to-dos; my favorite sweet treat--a petite almond croissant; and my new favorite candle from Jonathan Adler!

A huge shout out to Joseph at Jonathan Adler for sending me the candles !! Thank you!!

**Crazy cool mascara by Younique that makes my lashes really stand out!

Styling Your Home for Magazine-Worthy Images

Today's post I wanted to focus on the finishing details and how to style your home for great picture taking.

There is most definitely an art to styling a nightstand, coffee table, etc.  What the eye "sees" is not always what the camera sees.

After thousands of photos I've taken of my own home over the years, only a small percentage actually come out looking magazine-worthy. Styling one vignette can sometimes take 2-3 hours just to get the shot. You have to play around with the items, snap a few shots, then look back at the images on your camera. This will help you determine if the look is good or if something needs to be moved around.

These photos today are all of my home or a client's home I designed/styled.

Here are my tips for styling:
-Always use flowers
-Use varying heights when styling
-For a bold look, use a graphic print or colored painting
-Incorporate 5 + items--mix and match textures, colors, and old and new
-Use books--BOOKS ARE KEY!!

PS--I always use a step ladder to get the best top-down photos

PSS--Did you know JWS Interiors offers STYLING AS A SERVICE?

Madeline Weinrib's Loft

Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope you had a great weekend.

While it's raining here in DC, I came across this photo of Madeline Weinrib's NYC loft --a perfect antidote to this yucky weather. I love the white spiral staircase and the graphic rugs she used side by side.

Known for her textiles and rugs, Weinrib perfectly puts together this space, incorporating a touch of blue with the glass beads in the chandelier.

What do you think?

A New Food Blog to Love and the BEST Blueberry Pancakes

Happy Sunday!

I am very excited to tell you about a DC-based food blog, The Sugar Muse, that is definitely on my must-read list for food blogs.

Written by Bara Vaida, a journalist and lover of all things baking, pastries and desserts, started the blog as she began baking and experimenting with creating cakes and cookies.
She is currently attending L'Academie de Cuisine, a DC-based culinary program.

I tried the Blueberry Pancakes she featured and let me tell you--THIS IS THE BEST RECIPE EVER !  It was so easy to make (I doubled the recipe and came out with a ton of light and delicious pancakes).
I will no doubt be making this for my family and overnight guests for breakfast in the morning again and again!

PS-Be sure to check out the recipe for the Maple Butter that goes with the pancakes

Be sure to sign up to receive Sugar Muse's email newsletter, chock full of great ideas for your next baking adventure!

A Kitchen to Remember--Brass and Spots

I am in love with this cool brass island and spotted cowhide!
In fact, we just used this cowhide in a loft I just completed--you will see soon enough.
This is a fun, eclectic kitchen for sure!

PS--Up tomorrow--a new fav food blog and a recipe to die for , for breakfast! (Easy too)

My Go To Outfit for Cooler Weather

I don't about you, but I'm tired of this cool weather in DC. It should be warm and sunny and instead it is overcast and cool.

I've found that while I want to look stylish, I want to be comfortable to as I run around to meetings throughout the day and picking up my kids at school.

This has become my go-to outfit for these cooler days

I love the ripped jeans I found at Nordstrom Rack; I paired it with an aysmmetrical cashmere sweater and then my faux fur coat when the wind is whipping around!

My booties have just the right heel and are by Vince Camuto.

What's your go-to outfit for the week?

Room of the Day

I just so happened to come across this room and fell in love. I wish I knew the source. If you do, please comment!

It is so glam, yet restrained. I love the pops of color in the art. The gold coffee table is so fun as is the chevron mirrored media console!

The textures in the pouf and the gorgeous chandelier finish the look.

Under $500--Affordable Black and White Art

One of my tasks as a decorator is to find good art, at a good price. Most of my clients ask for less expensive to moderately-priced art.  Some have their own art collections and that makes it easy for me because I can just place each piece in the best spot.

Since art is so personal, sometimes it can be hard to pick.

I love black and white art--particularly abstract.

Today I wanted to share some of my favorite picks that are AFFORDABLE from LampsPlus! Many people don't know that this lighting website sells great art!

Which is your fav?
