Styling Your Home for Magazine-Worthy Images

Today's post I wanted to focus on the finishing details and how to style your home for great picture taking.

There is most definitely an art to styling a nightstand, coffee table, etc.  What the eye "sees" is not always what the camera sees.

After thousands of photos I've taken of my own home over the years, only a small percentage actually come out looking magazine-worthy. Styling one vignette can sometimes take 2-3 hours just to get the shot. You have to play around with the items, snap a few shots, then look back at the images on your camera. This will help you determine if the look is good or if something needs to be moved around.

These photos today are all of my home or a client's home I designed/styled.

Here are my tips for styling:
-Always use flowers
-Use varying heights when styling
-For a bold look, use a graphic print or colored painting
-Incorporate 5 + items--mix and match textures, colors, and old and new
-Use books--BOOKS ARE KEY!!

PS--I always use a step ladder to get the best top-down photos
