My Home: My Living Room

Hi there!
So yesterday I included a link to some new portfolio pics. For those of you whom didn't get a chance to see, I've included them today.

These are photos of my living room and the reason I'm posting is because this is a BUDGET makeover, and I wanted to prove to you that budget rooms don't have to look bad.  I didn't have a ton of money to spend nor did I want to because we never use our living room, but like a lot of us, it is the FIRST room people see when entering your home. I wish we had hardwood flooring in there, but for now the carpet will have to do.

SOURCES: The lamp is from HomeGoods; the absolutely fabulous vintage black and white chest is a find on Etsy--and was under $500! The long silver/gray pillow is from Target. And the photos on the wall are $10 prints I framed with Target white frames.

I'd love to get your feedback readers!!  Do you have a room you'd like to share with JWS Interiors readers that you've done on a budget? I'd love to see it!

Vintage Inspired Foyer Design Board

Hi Everyone!

Today I wanted to share my vintage-inspired foyer design board I recently completely for a client.  I'm so excited about this project because the couple couldn't be any nicer and fun to work with. They are gutting and I mean gutting the new home they purchased, so we are waiting for the drywall to be installed and flooring before we can move forward.

They like vintage-y things--distressed and such so I was lucky enough to find a large, painted floor mirror from HomeGoods, an antique lamp from Europe and a gray and bronze distressed mirror. I'm psyched to see this come together.

I hope you like the board!

PS-I have BRAND NEW PORTFOLIO pics for you. You can check them out here

An Affordable Updated Family Room Design Board

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share with you today a design board I put together for a family on a tight budget. It provides ample seating; is modern and hopefully comfortable to the homeowner once implemented!

This type of design is a great example of finding stylish pieces without breaking the bank.

What do you think?

Monday Musings/ A Great Blog To Follow

Hi Everyone! Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend.  Here's a little inspiration quote to start the week.

I'll have design boards to share with you this week along with our Eyeing and Buying series.

I also wanted to share with you the Violet Hours blog, a craft and DIY blog you will love!  I met the writer of Violet Hours, Amanda, at the Alt Summit last week and she was fantastic.

And, just a little plug for her book--she has a craft book coming out next year of more than 100+ crafts for kids you are going to love!

ALT NYC Takeaways and Pics /Links You'll Love

Hi Everyone!
I'm back from Alt NYC and had a great time. We had some fantastic speakers as I mentioned yesterday. Grace Bonney of Design Sponge gave some great tips. There were a slew of design bloggers and insiders that spoke and gave some good ideas to attendees.

A few takeaways:

--Accept change; especially with technology. It's going to happen, but also be careful. Just because someone else is coming up with an app, doesn't mean it makes sense (both time and money wise) for you.

--Don't forget about the power of email. People still love email. Something to consider: selling ads on newsletter space instead of your blog

--Pinterest--shoot VERTICAL photos to post; they take up more space on Pinterest and therefore viewers see more of your photo

--Pinterest--You can track to see what people are pinning from your site with this URL below
Please note I just tried this, this morning and an error code came up, so not sure what is going on.

Finally our regular LINKS YOU'LL LOVE:

-If you're throwing a party, I read about Pitch Cabernet Sauvignon--you can buy it here and it is only $15 a bottle and gets great reviews.

-J Brand Jeans came out with super slimming version called "Photo Ready". They claim you look almost a full size smaller!  Available at Bergdorf Goodman

--If you have linen drapes like me, you know they can wrinkle.  Check out the Haan Handheld Steamer I read about in InStyle. You can use it for your drapes, but also your clothes and even floors!  It's only $60!

When you first walk into Martha's space, this is what you see. Her offices surround this space

The staff at Home & Design were fabulous to work with as well as my fellow designer colleagues whom I met at the photoshoot in Georgetown to do this issue.

Below are photos from the July /August issue which will hit newsstands next week!
The issue will be live online next Wednesday. (I'll include a link to it on the blog next week)

What I'm Eyeing and Buying--Accessories For The Home

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share with you today some of  the items I've been eyeing and buying for my clients.

If you haven't checked out Z Gallerie --this shop is a great, affordable resource for accessories when you don't have time to go shopping at a retail location.

Here are some of my picks!

For a vintage, rustic-modern feel:

For clean and serene or pure glamour

For bold and beautiful

Clean and Serene Living Rooms--A Few of My Favs

Today I wanted to talk about a project I've been working on for a few weeks.  It is a
spacious, grand living room .  One wall has huge windows that look out onto this family's lush backyard. I'm presenting my design ideas in one week and just love this space!

So, for today I wanted to share some gorgeous "clean and serene" living spaces that I absolutely love.
I could spend hours in these in rooms and my hope of course is to make my client feel the same about her new space!

Which is your favorite?

Also, 2 items of news here!

First, I'm revamping my entire website starting next month! It will be more "clean and serene." A few people have mentioned the chevron pattern on my sidebars are distracting and well, I kind of agree.
So--thanks to all of you whom sent me comments!

Second, I know I keep hinting I have big's more of a hits newsstands very soon!
I'll give you full details as soon as I am able. I am ready to bust!

Have a wonderful week!

Affordable Abstract Art

So, you just bought a new place. You just rented a fabulous apartment.. You have lived in your place for 5 years and STILL have blank walls..
AND...You just can't find good art you like that is reasonably priced.

I hope I can help you out today!

Michele Armas is an abstract artist that sells reasonably priced art and prints.
I found a bunch that I love.

Her art would be perfect anywhere.  A foyer, nursery, bedroom....

Today here are a few of my favs. Check her out!

PS-I'm no longer going to do Tablescape Tuesdays as I've noticed these are not as popular posts

Turquoise Design Board for Tween Girl's Bedroom

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share with you today a fun and modern bedroom I put together for a super cool 12 year old girl. She requested a teal/turquoise bedroom with pops of pink.  To add a little punch, I thought it would be neat to paint a square pattern in two tones on the ceiling around her chandelier!

To add a lot of storage, we are using this beautiful bookshelf to hold her books and any fun accessories!

What do you think?

PS-I actually posted this on my Facebook page last week, so if you want to read and see some tid bits and photos before it goes up on the blog, be sure to "like" my page!

Rachel Zoe's Home Tour

Hi Everyone,
If you're like me, I LOVE watching the Rachel Zoe project on TV. I'm not sure if it's the beautiful clothes or just the fact that I admire her for achieving her level of success on her own.  While clothes certainly don't "make" a person and in the scheme of life, are not important at all, I do find the show entertaining!

And, now that Rachel recently bought a new home, I wanted to share pics I found of her  clean and modern interiors.

And to start it off, I found this photo of her--all jeweled up--looking gorgeous!

Enjoy your weekend!

PS--Next week, more sneak peeks on projects; I'm hoping to finally share my big news with you & more!
