This table has great lines..and of course, it's in my beloved shade of white.

Where can you put this pretty in your home?

Today is big day in my family as both my girls start their first day of school--one is in 1st grade and the other is in preschool!

Now onto design--I love animal print. I think it is timeless and adds that pop of fun to any room. Here are some cool inspiration pics.

Weekend Outfit

Hi Everyone!

My husband and I are going out to eat tonight at a cool new restaurant for Restaurant Week here in the D.C. area.

For the fun occasion, I bought this new navy and white striped shirt and fun bright orange pants! I LOVE them!

The Right White

It's Friday first and foremost :)

Paint can be difficult to choose and let's be honest, white can be tricky when it comes to paint.

So, here are Benjamin Moore white paint favs I thought I'd share.

The Washington Post & A Retro Accessory

I mentioned a month or so ago that The Washington Post invited me to participate in its weekly House Calls feature and I now have a date that my room design for a local family will run!

Thursday, OCTOBER 4 !!!

For those unfamiliar with this feature, local Washington, D.C. metro area residents send in a picture of a room that they need help decorating. The Post then pairs up the resident with a local designer to "fix" or update the room.

More details/sneak peek next month! So exciting!

And, one last request, if you LOVE Pinterest, don't forget to follow me here. Many, many thanks.

And, I came across this headphone from JackThreads that attaches to your iPhone.. how retro is that???!!!

That SOMETHING To Add Interest

Hi everyone!  Hope your day is starting off well!

I mentioned yesterday that I presented to my super cool clients the other night and working with them has been great. She asked me to add some more "funk" to the design, without it being over-the-top--a great idea and so I'm on the hunt for a new side table for their living room.

So, on that note, and thanks to client K, here are some cool, aka funky, furniture & accessories I found while doing some research.

Which is your fav?

African stool via Pfeifer Studo

Talk about cool!!!!! This basket is TO DIE FOR!

This is a beauty, but not going to's pricey!

Tobi Fairley & More

Hello!  A lot of thoughts on my mind this morning!

I woke up excited  as I just booked tickets for a lunch/design seminar featuring
Tobi Fairley.  I love her bright designs and she seems to so effortlessly pull rooms together to look brilliant.

I am also ready to begin work on a living room project I just presented last night.
Going to be a great room for entertaining! My client decided she wanted turquoise as the accent color (love), so here are a few photos to inspire using a gray and turquoise color scheme!

Thanks for the Nomination

Thanks to Patty from Patty's Epiphanies blog for nominating JWS Interiors/Affordable Luxury for the Liebster Award. Always nice when a fellow blogger enjoys your work!

The rules are as follows:
1. Post 11 facts about yourself.
2. Answer the 11 questions your nominator asks and then create 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate.
3. Choose 11 people with under 200 followers to nominate and link to them.
4. Go to their pages and let them know. (no tag backs)

Here are Patty's questions for me:

1.  What is your passion in life.
My passion in life is my family first and foremost, and then my business & blog. I think of myself as one of those people who try to live life to the fullest. Every day is a gift. Interior design has been a part of me since I was a child. To me, designing my clients' spaces is not work. I gladly stay up late each and every night reading up on the latest and greatest in design, doing client work, researching new blogs and just enjoying beautiful spaces.

2.  Who influenced you .
As a kid, it was innate in me to redecorate, move around my bedroom furniture, make my bed "just right."   As an adult, I love designers such as Kelly Wearstler, Tobi Fairley, Nate Berkus, Katie Ridder. Each has their own "take" on design.

3.  Why did you start writing a blog
I started writing my blog to share my ideas, client work, and beautiful spaces by other designers. I also thought it was a great way to help garner new client work and add a new facet to my business.

4. Are you a morning or a night person
I'm a morning person. I don't mind getting up early and starting the day off happy with my two girls, a cup of coffee and a little design reading!

5. What is your favorite color
My favorite color changes! Really!  It used to be chocolate brown. Right now its fuchsia!

6. What room do you "live" in
I'd have to say my office! Its black walls, hot pink art and turquoise lamps give me energy since the rest of my home is all neutral.

7. Are you a "Gold" or "Silver" Girl
Generally silver, but at the moment, gold. Gold is back in a great way!

8. Would you prefer to spend your vacation in the mountains or at the beach
Hands down the beach. It also gives me a reason to buy a new swimsuit!

9. What part of the world would you most want to visit
I've always wanted to go to Japan.

10. Coffee or Tea
Prefer Coffee, but I also like tea

11. Do you still wear a wrist watch
No. Sadly, I rely on my iPhone.

Tomorrow, I will be sharing the blogs I am nominating!  Stay tuned!..

Adding A Little Glam

As you all well know, I'm a big fan of creams, whites, and anything neutral. Well, adding in a little texture on top, and you have an interesting space.

I love sheepskin. Anything with a little soft fuzz never hurt :)

Just loved this beauty today--couldn't resist!

Sneak Peek on Bedroom Project

I met with my super nice client yesterday to check on the progress of her newly painted black master bedroom!

We went from boring beige and HERE.

To beautiful black and white.  We just need to put up hardware, curtains, pictures, accessorize, etc.

Check out adorable white scalloped tables and owl lamps I found!

Can't wait to have it all come together!

Stay tuned and have a fab weekend!

Scalloped tables and chairs and adorable owl lamp!  Mirror to be hung soon (and bed lowered!)

Found this hot pink canvas at HomeGoods which we'll hang over new West Elm dresser!
(TV and TV box moves of course)

New Basement Project

It's been a fun week here at JWS Interiors!

An old childhood friend called whom I haven't seen in years and asked me to design his family's basement. I'm super excited because the challenge is designing 3 spaces out of it:
 1)Kids Area
 2) Adult Game Area
3) TV Area
(We'll also be working on unfinished spaces and a bathroom)

I've already been brainstorming and am loving the area of doing a color scheme of blue gray with a pop of one or two colors, yet to be determined.

The kids' area is going to "rock out" too... wait until you see what I'm thinking about doing!

Here are shots of the room as it is now...
I'll keep you updated....

What's Your Calm?

While it's been hectic around here between my girls getting ready to go back to school in the coming weeks and work projects, I find myself wanting to retreat somewhere very peaceful...aka my bedroom.  That is where I feel at most at home, not because it is so decorative but because of its simplicity. I also love our family room since all upholstery is white.

Where do you feel most at home? Is there a special space in your home that you retreat to?

If so, please comment where that place is and is it colorful or neutral?

And of course a few pics to inspire.....

My New Find (Under $200)

I'm an ottoman lover..size, shape, texture--doesn't usually matter! I think almost all of them are great, versatile pieces.

While working on a living room project on a tight budget, I came across this beauty. I'm a big of fan of using 2 small ottomans together.

I like the simplicity of this one, the gray finish, and yes, the price!

What do you think?

P.S. If you really wanted something bold, a half yard of fabric, if that, and you could recover this "baby"!

Ta Ta,

An Unexpected (Great) Place for a Lamp....

I think a great place for a lamp, if you have the space, is in the kitchen. There is nothing like the glow of a table lamp on the kitchen counter or island.

Here are some examples of how one or two lamps can make your kitchen look fantastic! Look around your there an unused lamp that needs a home?

Or check out your local HomeGoods store and see if you can find one for under $50 (I know you can).  (photos via DecorPad)

My breakfast room; this pic doesn't do my lamp justice (especially at night), but here it is

Adding a little extra chartreuse in this kitchen!

A little extra light on the island

Love these large lamps!

Weekend Favor

Hi to everyone out there!

As Sunday evening starts to come to a close here on the east coast, just wanted to ask all of you loyal readers out there to be sure to "like" my Facebook page and add yourself to "Followers" by clicking on "Join this site" on my blog (right hand side)  if you enjoy reading it!

I really appreciate it! Every fan and follower counts! :)

Hope you are having a happy, restful weekend!

A Little Anthropologie Fashion

Today I'm all about fashion. It's been so hot here in Virginia..weeks of temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s, so I'm actually already ready for Fall.

So while perusing Anthropologie's site and I came across some great pieces and of course found a new furniture item I hope to use for a client :)

Here are my top picks!

Would love to wear this with regular old blue jeans!

(yes--for the weekend!)

A Few Top Picks

Happy Friday everyone!

As I mentioned yesterday I just completed a family room project using a variety of gorgeous pieces from various vendors.

For the room (yet to be seen I know), I used Layla Grace for beautiful chests and a stunning media console that I would love to buy myself!   Be sure to also check out Layla Grace's sister company, Zinc Door for more modern furniture.

Finally, I just scored a pretty lamp on One Kings Lane for a sunroom project for under $100, so be sure not to at least peek at this site if you aren't familiar!

Have a great weekend!

And, because I hope to relax a lot this weekend, here's a pic (via Elle Decor) of a very comfy spot I'd like to be at right now :)

New Addition to JWS Interiors & Lovin' Chartreuse

Happy Thursday!

I wanted to  start off today introducing my new assistant Chrissy to you! She is helping me with everything related to my business & blog and has been a great asset.  WELCOME Chrissy! (photo to come!)

I am also so excited to have just finished up a family room I've been working on for 4 months.  I took the final photographs today, but sorry you will have to wait and see them! Thanks to the Schwartz family for helping me transform this everyday space!

As I may have mentioned before, I'm working on a young couple's living room and the pieces I'm finding are super cool so it will be fun to present to them in the coming weeks.  K & C, see you soon!

So, for today's photos, I've been looking at some pops of color for various interiors I'm working on and am loving chartreuse at the moment. Check these beautiful rooms out!
