I mentioned a month or so ago that The Washington Post invited me to participate in its weekly House Calls feature and I now have a date that my room design for a local family will run!
Thursday, OCTOBER 4 !!!
For those unfamiliar with this feature, local Washington, D.C. metro area residents send in a picture of a room that they need help decorating. The Post thenpairs up the resident with a local designer to "fix" or update the room.
More details/sneak peek next month! So exciting!
And, one last request, if you LOVE Pinterest, don't forget to follow me here. Many, many thanks.
And, I came across this headphone from JackThreads that attaches to your iPhone.. how retro is that???!!!
I mentioned yesterday that I presented to my super cool clients the other night and working with them has been great. She asked me to add some more "funk" to the design, without it being over-the-top--a great idea and so I'm on the hunt for a new side table for their living room.
So, on that note, and thanks to client K, here are some cool, aka funky, furniture & accessories I found while doing some research.
I woke up excited as I just booked tickets for a lunch/design seminar featuring
Tobi Fairley. I love her bright designs and she seems to so effortlessly pull rooms together to look brilliant.
I am also ready to begin work on a living room project I just presented last night.
Going to be a great room for entertaining! My client decided she wanted turquoise as the accent color (love), so here are a few photos to inspire using a gray and turquoise color scheme!
Thanks to Patty from Patty's Epiphanies blog for nominating JWS Interiors/Affordable Luxury for the Liebster Award. Always nice when a fellow blogger enjoys your work!
The rules are as follows:
1. Post 11 facts about yourself.
2. Answer the 11 questions your nominator asks and then create 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate.
3. Choose 11 people with under 200 followers to nominate and link to them.
4. Go to their pages and let them know. (no tag backs)
Here are Patty's questions for me:
1. What is your passion in life.
My passion in life is my family first and foremost, and then my business & blog. I think of myself as one of those people who try to live life to the fullest. Every day is a gift. Interior design has been a part of me since I was a child. To me, designing my clients' spaces is not work. I gladly stay up late each and every night reading up on the latest and greatest in design, doing client work, researching new blogs and just enjoying beautiful spaces.
2. Who influenced you .
As a kid, it was innate in me to redecorate, move around my bedroom furniture, make my bed "just right." As an adult, I love designers such as Kelly Wearstler, Tobi Fairley, Nate Berkus, Katie Ridder. Each has their own "take" on design.
3. Why did you start writing a blog
I started writing my blog to share my ideas, client work, and beautiful spaces by other designers. I also thought it was a great way to help garner new client work and add a new facet to my business.
4. Are you a morning or a night person
I'm a morning person. I don't mind getting up early and starting the day off happy with my two girls, a cup of coffee and a little design reading!
5. What is your favorite color
My favorite color changes! Really! It used to be chocolate brown. Right now its fuchsia!
6. What room do you "live" in
I'd have to say my office! Its black walls, hot pink art and turquoise lamps give me energy since the rest of my home is all neutral.
7. Are you a "Gold" or "Silver" Girl
Generally silver, but at the moment, gold. Gold is back in a great way!
8. Would you prefer to spend your vacation in the mountains or at the beach
Hands down the beach. It also gives me a reason to buy a new swimsuit!
9. What part of the world would you most want to visit
I've always wanted to go to Japan.
10. Coffee or Tea
Prefer Coffee, but I also like tea
11. Do you still wear a wrist watch
No. Sadly, I rely on my iPhone.
Tomorrow, I will be sharing the blogs I am nominating! Stay tuned!..
While it's been hectic around here between my girls getting ready to go back to school in the coming weeks and work projects, I find myself wanting to retreat somewhere very peaceful...aka my bedroom. That is where I feel at most at home, not because it is so decorative but because of its simplicity. I also love our family room since all upholstery is white.
Where do you feel most at home? Is there a special space in your home that you retreat to?
If so, please comment where that place is and is it colorful or neutral?
As Sunday evening starts to come to a close here on the east coast, just wanted to ask all of you loyal readers out there to be sure to "like" my Facebook page and add yourself to "Followers" by clicking on "Join this site" on my blog (right hand side) if you enjoy reading it!
I really appreciate it! Every fan and follower counts! :)
As I mentioned yesterday I just completed a family room project using a variety of gorgeous pieces from various vendors.
For the room (yet to be seen I know), I used Layla Grace for beautiful chests and a stunning media console that I would love to buy myself! Be sure to also check out Layla Grace's sister company, Zinc Door for more modern furniture.
Finally, I just scored a pretty lamp on One Kings Lane for a sunroom project for under $100, so be sure not to at least peek at this site if you aren't familiar!
Have a great weekend!
And, because I hope to relax a lot this weekend, here's a pic (via Elle Decor) of a very comfy spot I'd like to be at right now :)
I wanted to start off today introducing my new assistant Chrissy to you! She is helping me with everything related to my business & blog and has been a great asset. WELCOME Chrissy! (photo to come!)
I am also so excited to have just finished up a family room I've been working on for 4 months. I took the final photographs today, but sorry you will have to wait and see them! Thanks to the Schwartz family for helping me transform this everyday space!
As I may have mentioned before, I'm working on a young couple's living room and the pieces I'm finding are super cool so it will be fun to present to them in the coming weeks. K & C, see you soon!
So, for today's photos, I've been looking at some pops of color for various interiors I'm working on and am loving chartreuse at the moment. Check these beautiful rooms out!
